Welcome to Samira Yoga Studio!

 

Samira is a small, cozy, beginner-friendly, yoga studio located in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

 

It's a space for those to come together as a community to practice yoga in a supportive, friendly, inclusive, non-competitive environment while exploring their own unique, yogic paths.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What can I expect from a class at Samira?

 

All classes contain elements of breathing (pranayama) and meditation.  These components along with the physical postures (asanas) allow the student to "go inside" and become aware of what is happenning in their own body.  We chant OM at the beginning and end of each class.  OM has many meanings in various traditions and schools of thought. It has been described as..."OM is the infinite, the sacred sound, the first sound of the universe, the essence of everything."  No worries if you aren't comfortable with chanting,  Just enjoy the sound as it vibrates throughout the room creating a focused, centered feeling that marks the beginning and the end of your practice. It connects you to the sacred space within yourself, others and the universe.

 

 

 

 

 

How do I know which classes are right for me?

 

Class descriptions are provided, so you can find what sounds interesting to you.  I would advise keeping an open mind & not getting to "hung up" on the name of class.  Unless the description recommends a specific level not participate, don't be afraid to come give it try. Modifications for asanas are offered & props are used and encouraged.

  • If you normally do fast-paced and/or heated yoga, try a Gentle, Yin or Restorative class.  These classes can be a great compliment to more vigorous types of yoga practice. 

  • If you are new to yoga or have practiced on and off over the years, Samira Yoga Studio is the perfect place to get started and/or make a committment to practice more regularly like you've always said you'd like to do. Now is the time!

I am passionate about learning and exploring various yoga traditions and am looking forward to sharing this with students of Samira during classes, workshops and customized, private appointments.

Yoga can affect so many positive changes and deepen the appreciation for health and well being -- doing things that are kind to/for your body, mind and spirit.  

 

I am grateful to all I have learned from my teachers over the years.  Part of being a yoga teacher is having the responsibility to be a committed guide to others.  I strive to teach through clear, thoughtful instruction that focuses on proper aligment, the quality of the movement linked with the breath, and cultivating an awareness of the more subtle energies of the body.
